Scientific Name:
Symphyotrichum georgianum
Georgia Aster boasts some of the largest, brightest and most vividly colored purple flowers of all the asters. Abundant blooms appear in fall after many other plants have finished blooming, providing a late source of nectar to visiting bees. It prefers sunny, drier areas and will spread via rhizomes to form a clump.
Georgia Asters were once widespread across southeastern prairies but have become rare due to habitat loss wildfire suppression.
